Atorvastatin-induced necrotizing autoimmune myositis
The general aim of this study was to evaluate the disease spectrum in patients presenting with a pure polymyositis (pPM) phenotype. Specific objectives were to characterize clinical features, autoantibodies (aAbs), and membrane attack complex (MAC) in muscle biopsies of patients with treatment-responsive, statin-exposed necrotizing autoimmune myositis (NAM). Patients from the Centre hospitalier...

A 76-year-old man with a history of two prior strokes complicated by residual mild cognitive impairment, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, congestive heart failure, dyslipidemia, and stage 3 chronic kidney disease was admitted for failure to thrive and functional decline. Two months prior, he had been briefly hospitalized for fatigue and inability to walk. ...
متن کاملLaminin-induced autoimmune myositis in rats.
The present study aimed to examine if immunization with laminin causes myositis in rats and whether the pathologic findings mirror human polymyositis and dermatomyositis. Rats were immunized with an emulsion of laminin and complete Freund's adjuvant. As a result, muscle fiber necrosis with infiltrating macrophages was frequently observed and mononuclear cells were observed in the endomysium. Th...
متن کاملAutoimmune statin-induced myopathy: a case report
A 58-year-old woman with a history of statin use presented with a 4-month history of progressive weakness of both shoulders and thighs. Laboratory and electromyography testing confirmed the presence of generalized proximal myopathy and ruled out connective tissue disease, malignancy, or active viral infection. Muscle biopsy was consistent with necrotizing autoimmune myopathy.
متن کاملElectrophysiologic and clinico-pathologic characteristics of statin-induced muscle injury
Objective(s):In this study, we aimed at evaluation of electrophysiological and histopathalogical characteristics of statin-induced muscle injury as well as clinical features of patients who develop this condition in terms of frequency and pattern of evolution. Materials and Methods: Forty patients (age 39-74 years) including 25 subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 9 with cardiovascular disea...
